Semaphore Steam Train – fun family friendly train ride from Semaphore to Fort Glanville and back.
The Semaphore train will be running EVERY day of the school holidays from Thursday 26 December 2024 to Monday 27 January 2025 inclusive.
The Semaphore to Fort Glanville Tourist Railway is an enjoyable 30 minute, four kilometre return journey travelling along the picturesque sand dunes in open carriages, pulled along behind a steam engine. Young children will especially love the adventure of a train ride and waving from the open carriages.
Operated by the National Railway Museum, the 2km long 457 mm gauge railway from Semaphore to Fort Glanville departs from the foot of the Semaphore jetty at the end of the popular Semaphore Road cafe strip about every 45 minutes, starting at around 11am, through to 4pm. The train then runs parallel along the foreshore to historic Fort Glanville at Point Malcolm, where once reversed, the train heads back to Semaphore. Each return trip takes about 25 minutes to cover the 4km long journey – with nice views of the lawns, beach and sea.
The railway operates:
- Daily from 26 December 2024 to Monday 27 January 2025 inclusive
- Steam trains will depart between 11am and 4pm, roughly every 45 minutes
