Charlie Caper & Malin Nilsson: More Minor Miracles – Adelaide Fringe 2023 Review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  5 stars for a delightfully charming magic show with lot of laughs

Review by Sharon Harrington

Honey-coloured vintage lamps light the darkened tent and scratchy 1920’s jazz tunes play in the background as Swedish magicians, Charlie and Malin, make their way on stage dressed in a tweed suit and Tim Burton-inspired black lace and top hat.

Both performers are understatedly funny and charismatic. Malin is wonderfully eccentric and full of quirky puns and playful commentary. Charlie has a warm hearted, bumbling professor vibe about him, sprinkling his magic tricks with witty banter.

Highlights from the show include classic sleight of hand style illusions: rings loop together and apart again in an impossible fashion; coke cans are pulled from empty shoes; and an audience member’s diamond ring mysteriously materializes on someone else’s hand.

There were other more unusual moments too, such as a lovely sequence of a mini robot mirroring Charlie’s every move and floating bubbles transforming into glass globes.

My little 6 year-old couldn’t contain her wonder at how it was all done. I was none the wiser either!

To quote Malin, β€œThis show will go down in history! Because all things do…”

But seriously, More Minor Miracles will go down in Adelaide Fringe history as fantastic family entertainment. Check it out at Gluttony until the 19 March 2023.
