Reading Revolution & Literacy Panel Night | St Raphael’s School Parkside | 19 Jun 2025

St Raphael’s School is delighted to announce the return of its award-winning Reading Revolution, running from 16–20 June 2025 and FREE Literacy Panel Night on 19 June 2025.

This exciting event helps children and families rediscover the joy of reading—and take a break from screens. This initiative has been named Community Event of the Year by Unley Council and also received the Innovative Programme Award from Catholic Education South Australia.

Why Reading Matters:

In today’s world, many kids spend too much time on screens. This event shows how books can be a healthy and fun alternative.
Principal Emma Fowler says:

“Reading isn’t just something we do for fun—it helps grow our minds, creativity, and wellbeing. Books are the best cure for too much screen time.”

What’s Happening:

The event runs from 16–20 June 2025 at St Raphael’s School in Parkside. The week includes a read-a-thon, where kids are encouraged to read as much as they can.

The highlight is the Literacy Panel Night on Thursday 19 June, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Families can go and hear from real authors and experts.

This is a family friendly event where children can play in the school playground (supervised) and enjoy quiet storytime in the library while parents attend the Literacy Panel Night.

At the Literacy Panel, well-known children’s authors and literacy experts will share tips for parents. Each session focuses on a specific age group:

  • Pre-School Parents: Bec Hughes (Raising Literacy Australia)
  • Reception–Year 2 Parents: Mandy Foot (Author & Illustrator)
  • Year 3–Year 4 Parents: Andrew Joyner (Author & Illustrator)
  • Year 5–Year 6 Parents: Tania Ingram (Children’s Author)
  • These sessions will help parents support their child’s reading journey at home.

This event isn’t just about reading—it’s about building better futures. Research shows reading:

  • Boosts mental health
  • Increases focus
  • Builds empathy

Principal Emma Fowler adds:

“We’re not just teaching kids how to read—we’re teaching them to love it.”

Join the Reading Revolution

Everyone is welcome—students, parents, grandparents, and community members. Whether you read together at home or join the panel night, this is your chance to be part of something special.
