Australia’s only celebration of bookshops takes place on Saturday the 8th of August with bookshops around the country hosting events, book readings and a wide range of other fun activities.
Supported by the Australian Booksellers Association, bookshops will be reinforcing their message that local bookshops are an integral part of the Australian way of life. They are the first point of contact between the reader and books. They care about the customer, the reader, and the books they want to read.
“Throughout Australia, hundreds of bookshops will be holding events and having activities, or simply saying thank you to the readers, writers, libraries and schools that support them. Though we do it every day of the year, it is a specific occasion where we can celebrate the unique place that bookshops have in the community, and celebrate their role in the local community, and the myriad of ways in which they contribute to the local economy, and to Australian culture and society.” – Joel Becker, CEO Australian Booksellers Association
National Bookshop Day encourages readers to visit their local bookshop. Why not take the family into your local bookstore, or travel into the city to visit one and enjoy browsing through some new books?
To look up your closest bookseller or to find a new store to visit head to the Australian Booksellers Association websiteand use the ‘Find a Bookshop’ tool on their home page.
