Adelaide’s West Beach Parks Resort – A family beach holiday with a pool, slides and more

West Beach Parks Resort

Military Road, West Beach

As soon as I saw the new AquaCove facility at West Beach Barks Resort I knew this would be a great place for a family holiday. It was obvious that kids can happily spend hours and hours here, and that’s exactly what my kids did. The heated pool with two waterslides just opened in November 2018 so it’s sparkling new.

Just to clarify, West Beach Parks Resort is separate from the Big 4 Holiday Park, which is also operated by West Beach Parks. The Mega Adventure complex and West Beach Mini Golf sits in between the two parks. The Resort has cabin accommodation exclusively while the Holiday Park has a variety of options, from unpowered and powered sites to cabins and eco tents. The AquaCove pool and waterslide here is only for use by Resort guests. The Holiday Park also had a huge upgrade in recent years and has a fabulous new family lagoon pool and water park area for little ones.

We visited before Christmas for a little staycation getaway.  West Beach is only about 20 minutes drive from the city but you immediately feel like you are on holidays when you get there. I think being seaside does that. After a full-on end of year of school, dance and sports events, it was nice to have a little recharge before gearing up for Christmas.

There are poolside cabanas and lounge chairs with umbrellas for lying around to relax, read a book and have snacks. Or you can lay your towel on the grass and stretch out there too.

Right next to the pool there are two outdoor amphitheatres playing movies at different times of the day.

Just outside of the pool area is the popular jumping pillow which is under shade, and a beach volleyball court.

There’s plenty of grassy areas for running around, cartwheeling or playing with a ball.

There are a couple of playgrounds at different areas of the park. This one below is shaded.

Here is the other playground below.

You can hire go carts (pictured below) and bikes as well.

There is a tennis court if you’d like to have a hit.

The resort is right on the beach and is a short walk from the cabins. One of the benefits of being close to the beach is getting front row viewing of Adelaide’s amazing sunsets.

We were lucky on both nights to enjoy these gorgeous skies below.

The photo below was taken by Miss 13 with no filter. We were all in awe of this magnificent sunset.

We stayed for two nights in an Executive Villa – a 2 bedroom cabin which sleeps up to 5 with a King bed in one room and 3 single beds in the other room. This is great if you have younger kids who you don’t want sleeping in a bunk bed. The cabin includes all linen for the beds and towels for each guest. The only thing you’ll need to bring are beach towels. There are toiletries provided too. The best thing about a holiday cabin which includes linen is not having to do all that washing when you get home (unlike when you hire a holiday house). It can suck the joy out of a little holiday when you get home and have to do laundry for days. Not necessary here.

Here is the view from our cabin below, looking towards the jumping pillow. The kids loved being able to run around the park and roam around.

The cabins are great for a family but if you have a group, you can book a few cabins near one another too. We saw a group nearby who put chairs and tables out on the grass in between their cabins to sit together for bbqs and drinks. Holidays are always fun with friends and the kids love having other playmates so we will definitely consider doing this next time.

West Beach Parks Resort is a quieter, less busy option, with good space between each cabin, compared to the caravan park next door. The pool at the Resort with the waterslides is suited to slightly older kids – they need to be strong swimmers in order to do the slides as they drop into deep water.  As my kids are 10 and 13 this suited us perfectly. If you have toddlers, the fabulous lagoon pool and water play area at the Big 4 Holiday Park would probably suit you better.

As you can see below, the Resort is right next door to The Big Wedgie so there are plenty of activities if you are looking for some other things to do. As mentioned before, the Mega Adventure Park with it’s new Mega Swing and West Beach Mini Golf are just a short walk away. Also Glenelg and Henley Beach are only about 10 minutes drive away. We visited both places for fish & chips and ice cream, and also for breakfast. Harbour Town Adelaide and IKEA are also close by if you’re keen on shopping.

West Beach Parks Resort is a fabulous spot for a little vacation, whether you are a local, visiting from regional SA or coming over from interstate or overseas. There’s plenty of things to do if you are looking for activities, but also just a wonderful space for relaxing too.
