Bienvenue à La Fête Nationale au Marché!  A celebration of French culture over two days, the Adelaide Central Market’s Bastille Day celebrations will have something for everyone, culminating with a very special event – Cheese After Dark by the Smelly Cheese Co.

Highlights include free live music, a cooking demonstration, cupcake decorating for kids, a crepe pop up stall, champagne bar, guided tours, a paint ‘n’ sip class and more.

There will be plenty for kids and families to do with the Market’s July school holiday program in full swing, including the popular Market Trail and cupcake decorating.

Kids can enjoy creating their very own French masterpiece, at the Bastille Day cupcake decorating workshop these school holidays.  GET ALL THE INFO HERE

Le tour du Marché : The French Market Tour

Vive La France… Discover the Market, French style!  Join this walking tour of the Market with your French speaking tour guide and Fringe performer Arnaud Bénassy. You’ll learn a bit of Française, learn how to sing La Marseillaise, discover interesting facts about Bastille Day and taste some of the Market’s most authentic French fromage, charcuterie and patisserie.

Starting at The Market Stall (near Haigh’s – Gouger Street end), this fun tour will take you for a chat and tastings at French institutions the Smelly Cheese Co. and Les Deux Coqs.

Times: Friday 12 July 2024: 4:30pm – 5:30pm, 6:00pm – 7:00pm and 7:30pm – 8:30pm (includes a glass of champagne) $30 plus booking fee, bookings essential.

Saturday 13 July 2024 : 9:30am – 10:30am and 11:00am – 12:00pm $15 plus booking fee, bookings essential.

Monet inspired Paint ‘n’ Sip class

Be inspired by French painter and artist Claude Monet as you paint ‘n’ sip the night away.  Enjoy a délicieux glass of French champagne by the French Wine Centre as you immerse yourself in an unforgettable art experience. This paint ‘n’ sip class offers the opportunity to explore your creativity and unleash your inner artist. Create your own inspired Monet masterpiece, quality canvas and acrylic paints, as their teachers step you through traditional techniques, paint application, blending and pattern.
Sip and paint the French way. Très magnifique! Friday 12 July 2024 (5:45pm – 8pm). Meet at the Eastern Roadway (near Central Market Flowers and Angelakis Bros. Seafood).

Cost: $60 includes glass of French champagne (plus booking fee, bookings essential)

Cheese After Dark by the Smelly Cheese Co.

To complete the two-day celebrations, The Smelly Cheese Co will host a very special Cheese After Dark on Saturday 13 July 2024 from 6.30 to 9pm.  Be the first to participate in the Torch Relay and ignite the fire under their Big Fondue Pot.  Enjoy some remarkable voices singing French songs and fun characters in their sport gears trying hard for their first gold medal!

Tickets $120, bookings essential.
