CC Hood Playground & Reserve | Panorama | Review

C Hood Playground & Reserve in Panorama is one of Adelaide’s best new playgrounds, featuring a huge adventure tower, giant slides, sand play, a flying fox and a challenging pump track for older kids and teens.

Review by Claire Davill

This massive family-friendly reserve in Adelaide’s southern suburbs has something for everyone, with a nature-inspired playground, bike track, dog parks, basketball court, picnic shelters and stunning city views all in one spot.

The standout feature of the recently upgraded CC Hood Reserve is the impressive multi-level playground tower, designed with an Amazonian jungle theme, complete with climbing nets, enclosed rope bridges, slides, and obstacle challenges, perfect for adventurous kids.

There’s plenty here for toddlers through to older children, making CC Hood Playground a fantastic all-ages playground destination in Adelaide.

This multi-level structure has a twisty tube slide, regular slide, a central climbing net and enclosed rope bridge.

The central climbing net provides a good challenge for older kids, but it’s not beyond younger kids. We saw a toddler climb to the top level with the assistance of a parent while we visited.

The lower levels of the tower can also be accessed via the enclosed rope bridge and there is a fireman’s pole accessible from a lower level platform. The whole playground is painted with an Amazonian theme, with lush jungle vegetation and plenty of animals to spot.

A springy two seat car continues the jungle theme, and nearby are smaller springy seats on theme as well.

The enclosed rope bridge connects to an open obstacle course, with ropes and platforms to traverse. The rope height for the platforms is great for younger kids, and the lower level height adds challenge for taller kids.

The obstacle course links the larger tower with a smaller piece of equipment that’s suitable for littler kids. This equipment has a metal slide, climbing walls, bridge and fireman’s pole.

There’s also a set of monkey bars near the main tower.

There are two separate sand play areas on each side of the main playground. The larger “sand factory” contains a pulley bucket, conveyer belt, sliding buckets and platforms and a tipping platform. The smaller sandpit contains a single sand art table and plenty of space for digging and making sandcastles.

The large flying fox sits below the smaller sand pit, and provides a nice long ride that’s not too fast.

There’s also a set of swings in the playground, with a solid basket swing, two regular swings and two toddler swings. Nearby is an accessible roundabout and lilypad steppers.

The massive, and challenging pump track sits just downhill from the playground. There are steep cambers on the bends, but alternative routes for those less confident.

If you venture down to the pump track, make sure to check out the dog sculptures, designed to look really stunning once the plants grow through them.

The park offers plenty of facilities outside of the new playground. There are two fully fenced dog parks, a huge one for larger dogs and a smaller one for smaller dogs. There is a half court basketball court, soccer goals on the oval, two large picnic shelters with barbeques and an accessible toilet block with baby change facilities.

There’s also a set of exercise equipment, multiple sealed paths winding through the park (with solar lighting), and an older playground at the north end of the park. The older playground is suitable for younger kids and includes two swings, a springy seesaw, two slides, monkey bars, noughts and crosses, and a fireman’s pole.

Things to Consider:

  • The playground is not fenced, and Eliza Place can get a little busy, so keep an eye on little ones.
  • There is no off-street parking, so take care when exiting vehicles along Eliza Place.
  • There is some natural shade from trees, but the new playground is quite exposed. You will need hats and sunscreen in sunny weather.
  • Only a couple of features in the playground are fully accessible.
  • Bring basketballs, soccer balls, and bikes or scooters to make use of the court, field and pump track. Bring the family dog if you want to explore the extensive dog parks.

Location:

90 Eliza Place, Panorama, SA 5041.
