Denis Morrissey Park | Playground, Dog Park and a Creek to Explore | Hectorville

Denis Morrissey Park has something for everyone – play equipment, walking trail, large open space, a creek to explore and a fabulous dog park for the family hound to have a play too.

Updated Review by Claire Davill

Located in Hectorville, this area is part of the Torrens Catchment and Fourth Creek Trail. Clean and well maintained, there is plenty of space to take a picnic lunch and a few ball games and spend the afternoon, or just drop by for a quick turn on the playground.  There are public toilets located at the entrance and a car park.

The playground is accessed via a beautiful little “troll” bridge that crosses over Fourth Creek.

The playground equipment is on the older side, but it’s been well maintained and contains two slides, tube tunnel, spinning bar, rope bridge, climbing nets, noughts and crosses and a fireman pole.

There is a climbing wall with a cute animal mural on it and a window to climb through at the top.

The playground also includes a small springy four-seat seesaw, springy kangaroo and some flip bars at different heights.

Keep an eye out for the tree stump that has been carved into a comfy seat.

Nearby is a second section of the playground with swings, a balance beam, treadmill and a four-way seesaw pole. The springs on the seesaw pole are a little worn, so expect a bumpy (but still lots of fun) ride.

Exploring Fourth Creek

Fourth Creek runs through Denis Morrissey Park creating a fun and interesting place to investigate – perfect for splashing around after a little rain or for exploring during the drier months.

Follow the path down the creek, where you’ll find some excellent stepping stones. When there is water in the creek, it’s still shallow with plenty of rocks to skim.

Just across from the stepping stones there is a large open area suitable for ball games, and a picnic shelter with a barbeque.

Four Paws Park

Four Paws Park, opened in 2012, has been well designed with a variety of dog exercise equipment suitable for a fun training session, such as tunnels, hoops, weaving poles, hurdles and a ramp.  There is also lighting, bench seats, a dog drinking fountain and of course bins and doggy bags.

Dogs are required to be kept on a leash at all times when not inside the fenced dog park at Denis Morrissey Park.

Location:

The park is located on the corner of Montacute and St Bernards Roads in Hectorville (behind the petrol station).  Entry to the car park is off St Bernards Road. The toilet block is located between the carpark and the entrance to the dog park.
