Dove Street Reserve Playground | Thebarton | Review

Dove Street Reserve Playground – a quiet, hidden playground that ticks all the boxes. Fully fenced, shaded, and with a great flying fox.
Review by Claire Davill
Hidden in the backstreets of Thebarton is this beautiful park. There’s a large area of shaded lawn, a rotunda picnic shelter, barbeques, drinking fountain, toilets and basketball ring, but the highlight is a feature-packed playground with plenty of shade and equipment.

The main equipment sits under a large shade sail and includes two slides, climbing nets, climbing walls, rope bridges and a fireman’s pole.

The adjacent flying fox is the big drawcard of this playground. There is a handy launch tower at one end to ensure a fast ride. Note that most kids will need help to pull the flying fox seat up to the tower after each ride.

There’s also a merry go round and springy seesaw in the centre of the playground. The merry go round spins easily, and doesn’t require a lot of effort to get moving.

At the other end of the playground is a large rope swing, and two regular swings, also under shade sails. There’s also a basket swing between the two shaded areas.

Just outside of the fenced playground are picnic tables and barbeques. The toilet block is located adjacent the playground, and there is a basketball hoop just outside the fence as well.

Things to Consider:
- The toilets and basketball hoop are not located within the fenced area, and are close to the road. The surrounding roads are quiet and there is very little traffic.
- The flying fox is not shaded, so sunscreen and hats are a must.
- There are no baby changing facilities in the toilets.
