Glenunga Hub Playground Review

by Baby & Toddler Destinations Adelaide

The lovely ladies of Baby & Toddler Destinations Adelaide have given the newly refurbished play space at the Glenunga Hub, a thumbs up for little ones. They have recently reviewed this new playground and shared their thoughts below. Play & Go have also visited the play space and we’ve included our photos as well.

April 2022 update: accessible sign board

With the support the Rotary Club of Burnside and Beaumont Scouts SA, a new accessible sign board has been installed at the playground. The Playground Chat sign allows children of all abilities to interact and communicate with each other as well as with parents, carers and guardians.

It does not get much better than this for Babies and Toddlers!

A rare recipient of their top rating, this lovely play space was already a favourite and its new refurbishment makes it just a fabulous trip out with your bub, especially in the warmer months.

The best part is that it is specifically for babies, toddlers & small children! {Editor’s note: older kids like my 7 year old and 10 year old also enjoy the water feature.}

It has all of the things that you ask for: SHADE, fully enclosed, toilets and age appropriate play equipment, the only flaw is that there is a baby swing with a chain that little ones may be too small for.

Why is it Great?

  • Fully Enclosed.
  • Shade sails and big trees.
  • A wooden toddler playground with small metal slide and binoculars.

  • Baby wooden climbing hedgehog hill (great for both crawlers and walkers to learn about negotiating hills safely).
  • New water feature – all of their baby testers were straight in and all over this (you might need a few changes of clothes and towels)! It has no sharp edges and only a couple of small drops to note.

The water play area offers plenty of opportunities for children to learn how the water moves along the various troughs. They can work out how turning the wheel will release water into a trough, and that in turn causes the water to flow down to the next trough.

  • Squishy asphalt paths and surrounding play equipment.
  • Little fake grass hill to sit or run up and down on.
  • Bouncy see-saw.
  • Heaps of nature elements but with a twist, all of the rocks you see have had sharp edges smoothed off.

  • Tiny toddler picnic table and four chairs.
  • Swings – one baby with chain and one normal.
  • Outside of the playground there is undercover seating, toilets, BBQs and 2 big ovals which are great for ball sports.

  • Drinking fountain is outside of the enclosed area.
  • The large new community centre building is great for sporting clubs, community events and private parties. If you are wondering, this was the site of the old Burnside Toy Library many years ago. It is now a new modern facility which will have many uses.

Detractors

  • Bark chips – babies do think they are food.
  • Baby swing with chain.

This gorgeous play space is one that your baby will grow with. All the old equipment that babies love is all still there, but there are  great new play options that they will love exploring.
