MRASA Motorcycle Toy Run

The 40th MRASA Toy Run will be held on Sunday 9 December 2018.

Each year in December thousands of motorbike riders across Adelaide get together and ride from the city to the Adelaide Hills, carrying toys they are donating. The Toy Run collects toys on behalf of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for families in need at Christmas time. The MRASA has held its annual Toy Run for the last 39 years. They will be departing from the Clipsal Track at 11am and will make their way to Callington Oval via Hutt St, Glen Osmond Road and the South Eastern Freeway. It’s a real sight to see the huge parade of motorbikes that’s fun for families. Line the streets and wave to them as they go by. Many of the motorbike riders also throw sweets to children who are on the footpaths, so the kids love it!

The MRASA organises and funds this event with incredible support from volunteers, sponsors and organisations who are proud and willing to be involved.

The event’s aim is to hold a community event to celebrate motorcycling with a strong focus on assisting the children of families in need during the festive season. They have traditionally chosen St Vincent de Paul as a beneficiary of the thousands of toys and gifts.

The Ride on the Day:

The Toy Run will depart at 11am via the western gate of the Clipsal Track, Wakefield Rd Adelaide. Follow behind Santa and his marshals as they travel along Wakefield Road, turning left onto Hutt Street, left onto Glen Osmond Road, onto the Freeway, turning off at the Callington exit and following the designated route to Callington Oval, arriving at approximately 12 noon.

Speeds will remain lower than posted limits: about 40 kph in the suburbs, initially about 60 kph on the Freeway to enable riders who are separated by traffic lights to catch up so that they can present a spectacular mass of motorcycles, then 80 kph to the Callington exit.

The centre and left-hand lanes of the Freeway will be used to enable other traffic to pass safely on the outside lane.

Please do not speed or change your chosen position in the Run as it can be unsafe and disturbing for others, especially newcomers who are unfamiliar with riding in a large group.

Ample bike parking will be available on Oval No. 2 (the back oval). No bike parking will be available on or around Oval No. 1 other than that allocated for displays.

MRASA Toy Run Raffle:

The MRASA will be holding a raffle for the 2018 Toy Run. Up to $5000 worth of prizes will be on hand to give away. Tickets are $5 each. All proceeds will be donated to Vinnies for their Christmas appeal. Tickets can be purchased on the day at Victoria Park and at Callington Oval. The raffle will be drawn at 4pm on 9 December 2018.

The main prize will be a Mick Doohan signature watch valued at $600 donated by the Motor Accident Commission.

A number of other prizes of motorcycle gear have been donated by McPeake Engineering of Lonsdale.

Callington Oval:

Entry Fee

The MRASA organise and fund this event with each year’s event costing around $24,000.  Because they are struggling to meet this commitment through sponsors and donations, reluctantly they need to charge an entry fee. An MRASA entry fee of $5 per adult will get you into the oval. Entry is FREE for children under 16, Toy Run Marshals and MRASA members. To avoid queues at Callington Oval you can pre-pay at Victoria Park at the MRA Stand.

Activities

On the oval, there will be a band and children’s activities, including a blow-up castle, face painting and of course, Santa. There will also be food and drinks available, motorcycle trade displays and stalls selling everything from T-shirts to jewellery and tools. There will also be Toy Run badges available from the MRA stock tent.

Donations

Vinnies will be available inside the oval to accept your donations of money and toys. There will also be ‘Drop and Ride’ sites at the gates for those not wanting to join the festivities on the oval. Society of St Vincent de Paul collects the toys for distribution to children in need.  Please bring a toy for older children, games, books, sporting goods etc.

Toy Run Badge 2017

This year’s Toy Run badge will be $8 for MRASA members and $10 for non-members. These will be available at the MRA Tent at Callington Oval.
