Innovation Factory comprises 18 hands-on exhibits which let visitors experiment with simple machines—gears, cams, levers, pulleys, pneumatics, wheels or electric circuits—to discover how machines are used to create ingenious inventions.

QUESTACON DEST Family Evening Wednesday, 5 December 2007

Visitors can learn how robbers break into a safe by cranking a cam lock, use machines to generate an optical illusion, race a horse and a camel or play an electronic version of the timeless game paper, scissors, rock.

Innovation Factory is primarily targeted at children between 8 and 14 years old, however the topics covered vary in complexity to allow exploration from people of all ages.

Some of the exhibits visitors can expect to see include:

Crank the Engine – turn a handle and watch as pistons move up and down inside cylinders to turn the engine’s crankshaft below.

Electric Face – use different generators (batteries, power pack, solar cell or hand crank) to animate a cartoon face.

Gear Race – combine small, medium and large gears and turn a handle to race a toy camel and a toy horse along a track.

Innovation Factory was conceived, designed and built by Questacon.
