Launer’s Reserve Playground in Rostrevor

Head down a small pathway between two houses in Rostrevor to discover a huge hidden park, tucked away with plenty of space to run and play.
Launer’s Reserve sits in the middle of a large suburban block, surrounded by backyards and only accessible by two footpaths, from Gulfview Drive or Treefern Avenue in Rostrevor. This makes the park feel like a secret oasis, and there’s plenty here to enjoy.
At one end of the park is a playground with a newly installed shade cover. The usual swings, slide and ladders are here, along with a nice climbing wall, challenging monkey bars, climbing bars and fireman’s pole. The equipment is set up in a way that makes it into a nice “ninja” course to challenge older kids.
There is also a spinning pole to swing around on. All of the equipment here is under the shade sail except for the spinning pole.
Next to the playground is a half court paved area with a basketball hoop, netball hoop, and brick wall to bounce balls off of, perfect for practicing ball skills.
The rest of the expansive park is an open field bordered by garden beds and large shade trees. Plenty of room to run and kick a ball. There’s also a cricket net at the opposite end of the park to the playground, and a nice “sitting tree” with a low branch to climb on.
The park is not totally fenced, but is far away from nearby roads in all directions, with the only unfenced sections being the two access paths. Each of these paths are about 30 metres long, so you are well away from any traffic. Access is from either Gulfview Drive or Treefern Avenue – either of these roads are good to park on, both being quiet residential streets.
Unfortunately there are no toilets or barbeque facilities in the park. The nearest toilets are at the Newton Village shopping centre, about a 3 minute drive away on Montacute Road. This centre also has a parent room.
