McGilp Reserve Playground | One Tree Hill | Review

McGilp Reserve Playground in One Tree Hill is a fully fenced play space featuring a pump track and equipment for all ages.
Review by Claire Davill

McGilp Reserve has had a major facelift, and now contains an excellent fully fenced playground with some accessible features, plenty of room to run around, tennis courts and an oval.
The huge central towers have two large twisty slides, and a fully enclosed net bridge linking them. There are staggered platforms inside the towers with lots of ways to climb up, and lots of windows to look out of.

There are climbing walls and hand holds on the outside of the towers, and very clever hand holds on the horizontal platforms, perfect for smaller kids trying to pull themselves up.

There is a hanging rope bridge at one end that doubles as a climbing net, and a smaller climbing net, platform and slide that’s perfectly sized for toddlers. You’ll find a little shopfront here too.

The play equipment is surrounded by an accessible pathway, including a ramp from the lower gate. At the top of the playground is an accessible merry go round, and a basket swing and toddler swing are nearby as well.

There is also an area with plenty of logs and stepping stones to explore, and a couple of animal themed springy seats suitable for little kids.

Also included in the fenced areas is a fantastic mini pump track. This track is fully sealed, with camber curves and gentle rises. It’s great for small kids to challenge themselves without being too overwhelming.

The fenced area also includes plenty of benches, a picnic shelter, barbecues and a drinking fountain. All the gates have child locks, and there is plenty of off-road parking nearby.

The reserve also contains an oval and newly refurbished tennis courts. The nearby oval clubrooms have accessible toilets, however these are not open unless the clubrooms are in operation. There are toilets located behind the progress association building on McGilp road that are always open – just down the road towards Black Top road.

Things to Consider:
- The playground is not shaded, so hats and sunscreen are a must
- The woodchips have a tendency to spread out over the accessible path, so you may need to check the path before using.
- If the toilets at the nearby clubrooms are locked, there are toilets available behind the progress association hall on the corner of McGilp Road and Black Top Road.
Our favourite nearby coffee spots/cafes:
- There is a general store/diner in One Tree Hill, opposite the corner of McGilp Road and Black Top Road.
