Monarto Safari Park Welcomes 4 New Lion Cubs | Feb 2020

Monarto Safari Park welcomes a fab four of ROARSOME lion cubs

Monarto Safari Park have has finally welcomed four lion cubs to the pride!

The team excitedly watched the birth of two of the cubs via live stream on Sunday night, and awoke to two more cubs in the morning of Monday, 17 February 2020.

They are pleased to say all looks well with the babies so far – Husani is doing a great job as a first-time mum and is very attentive.

The new cubs are yet to be sexed and will remain with Husani in an off-limits private den while the family bonds, before making their adorable debut in the near future.

While they are celebrating their safe arrival it is also a time for reflection. It is heartbreaking to know that the population of lions in the wild is in decline. It is therefore imperative that breeding programs like the one at Monarto Safari Park exist – they are pivotal to securing the future of this beautiful species.

New additions to the lion population are very precious, even more so as African lion populations are decreasing, due to trophy hunting, habitat loss, traditional medicine and disease. There is an estimated 25,000 – 30,000 thought to be remaining in the wild.  With the ongoing support of visitors and members they are able to make a difference to lions in the world.
