The Moon Lantern Trail is a free, colourful, family friendly outdoor event featuring spectacular giant lanterns, roving performances and live music. This OzAsia Festival family favourite event returns for its fifth year to Adelaide’s Tarntanya Wama/Pinky Flat this October.
The Moon Lantern Trail is an exciting celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival traditions and stories from across Asia. Beautiful to explore by day, but as night falls be awed as the Moon Lantern Trail transforms into a vibrant display of light and sound with over a dozen giant lanterns along Karrawirra Parri/River Torrens riverbank.
Enjoy the return of the popular Hong Kong Dragon lantern and other fan-favourites. The breathtaking 40-metre-long installation Hong Kong Dragon will be on display for 2 weeks – 17 October – 2 November. You can walk alongside the dragon day or night and it is completely free to view.
Wander at your own pace through the picturesque Tarntanya Wama/Pinky Flat and enjoy lively roving performances, puppetry, interactive workshops and live music.
NEW in 2025: The Moon Garden – an interactive space with lantern-making workshops, origami, calligraphy, storytelling, and more hands-on fun for kids of all ages. Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 October 2025 (12.30pm – 6pm).
There are also several food trucks and toilets along the trail, located near the Morphett Street Bridge.
With free entry and perfect for the whole family, follow along as the lanterns light up the trail, ushering you into an unforgettable OzAsia Festival experience. Wheelchair and pram accessible.
