Who is Thomas Goss?
On this very day in 1854, Thomas Goss purchased the property we know as Penny’s Hill. For a short time the postmaster in McLaren Vale, Goss and two fellow settlers, Prior and Fountain, headed for the gold diggings at Ballarat where unlike the vast majority, all three struck it rich. Goss used his £1500 to acquire the property “Gedney” which he renamed “Ingleburne”, a connection to the family’s Devon origins.
