Culture and connection were the themes of the official Program launch of the 2026 South Australian History Festival - 1 to 31 May 2026.

To celebrate just a snippet of the impact of cuisine, resilience and culture, we embarked on a history tour of some of Adelaide’s most iconic and enduring businesses - @gerardmccabe Jewellers (celebrating 40 years), the iconic @haighschocolates (founded in 1915) and @dittersnuts (founded in 1918), with @katiespainwrites

Don Dunstan’s “before his time” cookbook was like stepping back in time - a celebration of simple but delicious food from around the world, curated by @_mandyhall and executed by @therichmondhotel.adl head chefs RJ Pascual & Arvin Jay. With spectacular wine pairings from Australia’s oldest winery - @hughhamiltonwines wines, many of them cheekily named after some of the Hamilton family’s family and friends!

A reminder of how fortunate we are to live in SA with amazing food and wine from cultures across the world that bring us together.

Make sure you visit @adelaidearcade during May to pick up some delicious goodies and see the Gerard McCabe exhibition. You can also take your own jewellery in for valuation at Gerard McCabe’s Antique Jewellery Roadshow on Friday 8 May.

We recently stayed in the glamping tents at @woodhouseadventurepark and it’s such an easy way to dip your toe in - all the good parts of camping, none of the stress.

Days were spent running between adventures (Challenge Hill is HUGE), getting lost in the labyrinth, flying down the tube slide and tackling the obstacle course… then relaxing as the sun set.

One of our favourite moments was wandering the labyrinth at dusk with hardly anyone around - just us and a koala casually having dinner above us.

You can go as full-on or as relaxed as you like, which makes it perfect for families. It feels like a proper escape in the bush, but you’re still close to everything.

Safe to say… this weekend adventure has sparked a new love of family camping!

If you’re looking for a relaxed day out, head up to @atlenswoodpickyourown and spend the day wandering through the orchard, picking apples straight from the tree.
It’s more than just fruit picking too - there’s tractors to climb on, a giant sandpit, scavenger hunts and plenty of space for the kids to run while you soak up those Adelaide Hills views.
