See Father Christmas at David Jones, Rundle Mall Adelaide with a visit to The Magic Cave – a special family tradition for many South Australians each year.
The Magic Cave and will open on Saturday 2 November 2024, the same day as the National Pharmacies Adelaide Christmas Pageant.
David Jones is a beautifully decorated store during the Christmas season and they offer families a premium Santa photo experience with their magical Christmas sets and real-life Santas. All bookings will receive their photo in a David Jones custom sleeve and a complimentary Santa hat.
David Jones also offer Sensitive Santa sessions for children with sensory needs and Santa Pawtraits (pet photography).
You will find the Magic Cave up on the second floor and although much smaller now than previous years, they still have the sweet vintage carousel and the funhouse mirrors.

Photo packages range in price from $26 – $50 (+booking fee).
Bookings are essential. Only 1 family permitted per booking. Photos received in a custom sleeve along with a complimentary Santa hat.
History of the ‘Magic Cave’
The ‘Magic Cave’ itself appeared even before the first Pageant was held – opening its doors in 1896 in the basement of John Martin’s. Initially, it was a place where people could find some cool relief from the warm December days. Unfortunately, when the store burnt down in 1901, locals had to wait until 1905 before a new ‘Magic Cave’ was opened. In 1998, John Martin’s Rundle Mall store closed and the ‘Magic Cave’ was moved to David Jones. (Source: City of Adelaide – Pageant Past & Present)
