Tusmore Wading Pool Temporary Closure
The Tusmore Wading Pool infrastructure is ageing. With the current infrastructure it is difficult to manage the pool’s water quality during extreme heat conditions.
The high temperatures cause a dramatic increase in the bacteria levels of the water and, over a short period of time, creates a public health risk for all users.
In the past Council has kept the wading pool open during extreme heat conditions most often resulting in the closure of the facility after one day of extreme heat. The pool is then drained, the water replaced and dosed with chemicals to ensure that the water quality meets the South Australian Public Health regulations.
This coming weekend is the busiest of the year at the Tusmore Wading Pool. To ensure that the pool can be kept open as much as possible this week, and so the community can use the pool this weekend, two pre-emptive closures will be in place.
The wading pool will be closed Tuesday 17 December (forecast 40°C) and Friday 20 December (forecast 44°C).
These closures may allow the wading pool to remain open on Wednesday 18 December, Thursday 19 December and for the coming weekend – pending water quality levels.
The George Bolton Swimming Centre will be opened for extended hours when the temperature exceeds 32°C at 5 pm.
Temporary closures* during extreme heat:
Tuesday 17 December 2019 CLOSED
Wednesday 18 December 2019 OPEN
Thursday 19 December 2019 OPEN
Friday 20 December 2019 CLOSED
Saturday 21 December 2019 OPEN
Sunday 22 December 2019 OPEN
*subject to change – please check with the Burnside Council directly for confirmation
As the Tusmore Wading Pool is due for an upgrade, plans are in place to consult with the community on the future of the pool in early 2020. Sign up to engage.burnside to receive eNews and to be informed when this consultation starts.
