Your Guide to the Best Ice Cream Places Around Adelaide

I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream!

Here at Play & Go we LOVE our ice-cream – especially in the warmer months, but a bit of cold weather doesn’t stop us eating it during Winter too.  We love it so much we thought we’d make a list. Here are some of our favourite ice cream places around Adelaide (in no particular order). If you’ve got a favourite that we’ve missed, please let us know by commenting below.

The name says it all – they have an amazing range of flavours with an emphasis on Asian and Vegan Flavours including Apple Pie, Black Sesame,  Jackfruit Sorbet, Pandan, Pear Gorgonzola Roasted Walnut and Organic Fig, plus all the traditional flavours like Pistachio, Hazelnut, Chocolate and Vanilla etc.

BOTTEGA GELATERIA

You won’t find any rainbow gelati here or anything with artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. You will, however, find gelati and sorbet made from scratch using traditional Italian methods, using only real ingredients and because of this, the flavours are intense and the texture is smooth and creamy. Flavours change but you will find classic gelato flavours like Dutch Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Coffee, Pecan Maple and Tahitian Vanilla plus lemon, watermelon and strawberry sorbet.

Gelatissimo is a firm favourite of one of the Play & Go families. Their gelato selection will make your eye pop out on stalks. NATURA ICE CREAM

Natura Ice Cream produce their own ice cream and fresh fruit sorbet using only fresh and local ingredients. No artificial colours, flavours, premade paste, eggs or gelatine are added to their products and they dare to be different by experimenting with Asian flavours and exotic spices.

They periodically make new flavours most of which are Halal and Vegan and have started growing most of the ingredients used in their ice cream.

They are also very conscious of their carbon footprint and use compostable packaging while their power needs come only from solar and their equipment is cooled with rainwater.

OVO GELATO & DESSERT BAR

Ovo opened in 2022 with super creamy, flavoursome, handcrafted gelato and desserts. The gelato is allergy friendly and made with premium local produce.

There’s plenty of seating if you want to enjoy it straight away or you can also get takeaway tubs!

PASTA DELI

All the gelato flavours at Pasta Deli are made on-site, and they continually change their range of flavours. Pasta Deli has been awarded as one of Adelaide’s best Gelaterias. Tip: try their apple pie flavoured gelato. You can also pick up some great salads, pasta and other meals for dinner here, or dine in.

ROYAL COPENHAGEN

They make their ice cream fresh daily at their small factory in Adelaide using only fresh cream and real milk. We love their waffle cones, especially dipped in chocolate, as well as their toppings bar where you can add your own chocolate or caramel topping, and sprinkles (NOTE: toppings bar has been removed during COVID restrictions). You know it’s Summer when there’s a line up out the front at Henley Beach… but it’s worth the wait (and it moves fairly fast).

You will find St Louis is seven locations around Adelaide, with their largest and latest store opening in Mawson Lakes in November 2021.   With premium ice creams, and some more ‘grown-up’ flavours, delectable waffles and beautiful ambience this is the perfect spot for a treat.

This is a self-serve frozen yoghurt place where you pay by weight. Fill up your cup with as much as you like and add toppings from the large self-serve bar.
