Enchanted Garden Prospect Memorial Gardens Playground | Review
Prospect Memorial Gardens Playground, shortlisted for the first ever ‘Australia’s Best Playground’ competition, is a beautiful play space with an Enchanted Garden theme and plenty of nature play opportunities.
Review by Sharon Harrington
Our Play & Go playground testers give the Prospect Memorial Gardens Playground a big thumbs-up, so if you’re looking for a fenced playground that’s fun for kids of all ages it’s a must visit spot for a little adventure. The play equipment is colourful and engaging, and with two distinct play areas there’s something for both little kids and older kids … plus there are solid options nearby for coffee and food.

You can tell that a lot of thought has gone into planning this playground. What we love most about Prospect Memorial Gardens Playground:
- It’s fully fenced which is great for toddlers
- The very beautiful fence. This is not a bog standard playground fence but a piece of art with coloured glass circles embedded in it. The Play & Go testers love the way light shines through them. Some of these circles are able to be twisted so you can direct the coloured light onto the ground
- Shaded seating
- Logs for climbing on plus a spider web for bigger kids
- The treehouse structure is perfect for bigger kids who love to climb
- The sandpit which (on the days we’ve been) has plastic toys and buckets there for you to use, plus the water play area where you can turn a big tap and make water run down a little water chase towards the sandpit
- The wooden painted birds and insects, including a ‘bird wheel’ that you wind the handle on to hear different bird noises
- Birds nest swing plus regular swings
- Established trees provide shade. There’s also a shade sail over the smaller kids’ playground
- The large grassed area just over the fence is perfect for kicking a ball or throwing a frisbee
- Long tables and benches, barbeques, a covered pavilion and ample shady grassed areas make this a great venue for a birthday party or group get together
- Toilets are just over the fence and there’s a drinking fountain inside the playground

Wooden animals and insects
The toddler loves hopping on and off the wooden wombat and the ladybird and spotting the various insects/animals around the playground.
Tip: this could be a fun ‘treasure hunt’ activity for a birthday party.

Things to climb
The toddler playground is a lovely little wooden structure with lots to do!

The mini climbing wall is great for beginner climbers.

There’s a spider’s web rope to climb too. Check out the resident wooden spider up the top!

Toddler slide and climbing mound

Spinning rope wheel
The spinning rope wheel is great fun for older kids to play on by themselves or in a group.

Wooden posts
Kids will love to hop from post to post and practice their balancing skills.

Wooden armchairs
Our kids love these gorgeous carved wooden armchairs.

Swings
There’s a toddler swing as well as a bird’s nest swing.

Water play area
Kids will love pumping the water and seeing it flow down under the wooden bridge.

With ample tables and chairs, barbeques and a big shady lawn area to set up in, this is a favourite playground for catch ups or parties. There is also a covered pavilion which can be hired out- see the City of Prospect website for further information.

After being upgraded by Prospect City Council and Outerspace Landscape Architects, Prospect Memorial Gardens “Enchanted Garden” themed playspace was shortlisted for the first ever “Australia’s Best Playground Competition”.

Things to consider:
- During the week it’s easy to find a park right outside the playground but during the weekend it’s worth checking to see if there’s footy being played at Prospect Oval as this will make parking tricky.
- On our last trip to this playground the toddler was fixated with turning the tap on and off and filling up buckets of sand and water and then stomping about in the water. It might be a good idea to bring a change of clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting wet/sandy.
- There are bark chips so if your toddler or baby is keen on putting anything and everything in their mouth you might want to keep a close eye on them.

Coffee and food nearby:
It’s an eight minute walk to the Foodland and Coles on Prospect Road if you need to pick up provisions. Or if you love Asian street food then you might like Sunnys Shop (106B Prospect Road).
Bottega Gelateria is a 6 minute walk away, if you feel like splurging on some amazing gelato.
Our favourite nearby coffee spots are:
Cibo Espresso, 124C Prospect Road, and Cafe Komodo, 118 Prospect Road, which are both 600m (or around a 6 minute) walk away.

This is a lovely playground though watch your younger kids on that treehouse! The gaps in the bridge are big enough for kids to slip through and it’s very high! A child could be seriously hurt falling from that height.
