Cheesy Bread or Cheesy Toast Recipe

One of our favourite things about going to Sizzler in the 90s was of course THAT cheesy bread. It’s so easy to make and is a favourite with my kids and perfect to go with soup, pasta, a casserole, as an after school snack, or breakfast!

We’ve seen the recipe online where you mix equal parts butter and parmesan together, then spread this on the bread. However I find that you never really know how much butter and cheese to use so end up having leftover mixture, which you then need to refrigerate but is then not soft when you want to use it again. Also, you use more butter this way which makes the bread a little less crisp, and saltier than it needs to be. Here’s the way we do it below which works well, is super easy and very quick to make.

How to Make Cheesy Bread or Cheesy Toast

Ingredients

Thick white bread – we use Baker’s Delight White Vienna cut thick (they cut this for you)

Butter or margarine

Parmesan cheese – we like to use fresh grated parmesan (see pic below). I buy it already grated so it’s quick and easy but you can also buy a block and grate it yourself.

Method

  1. Spread butter or margarine over one side of the bread.
  2. Sprinkle the parmesan over the buttered bread.
  3. Heat up a non-stick frying pan and spread a little bit of butter on medium heat.
  4. Place the bread with the cheese side down onto the pan.
  5. Cook for about 45 seconds to 1 minute on medium heat until the cheese is brown and the bread is toasted on that side.
  6. Remove from the pan – you only need to cook one side.
  7. Enjoy!
