Glenunga Hub | Water Play for Little Ones | Playground Review

Outdoor fun doesn’t get much better than the Glenunga Hub Playground for babies and toddlers!

A rare recipient of our top rating for play spaces, this much-loved community reserve is home to a fabulous playground, making it an even more enjoyable outing with kids, especially during the warmer months. Designed specifically for babies, toddlers and younger children, it offers a safe and welcoming environment to explore. That said, older kids – like our 7 and 10 year olds – still can’t resist the playground’s water feature!  The previously muddy area under the water feature had been updated to bark chips which is less messy.

The colourful play equipment is perfectly suited for little ones to explore.  The baby wooden climbing hedgehog hill is great for both crawlers and walkers to learn about negotiating hills safely.

You’ll find everything parents look for here: plenty of shade, a fully fenced layout, nearby toilets and age-appropriate play equipment.  Surrounded by sports ovals and a walking path around the perimeter, the playground is a popular meeting spot for families.  It’s an ideal spot to bring extra outdoor play equipment such as bats and balls, frisbees, kites and bikes or scooters.

The water play area offers plenty of opportunities for children to learn how the water moves along with different plugs and see-saw troughs that alternates the water’s trajectory. The area has been made accessible with a gentle ramp, but the button to initiate water flow is a bit difficult for young ones to press in (so may need an adult’s help).

The squishy asphalt paths and surrounding play equipment are great for little ones to practice riding and steering bikes or scooters, and there are little fake grass hills to sit on or run up and down on.  There are lots of nature elements but with a twist, such as all of the rocks you see have had their sharp edges smoothed off.

Some of the other playground features include a tiny toddler picnic table with four chairs, bouncy see-saw and swings (one baby with chain and one normal). Outside of the playground there is undercover seating, toilets, BBQs and two large ovals.  A drinking fountain is also located outside of the enclosed area.

The community centre building is designed for and used by sporting clubs, as well as community events and private parties. If you are familiar with the area, this was once the site of the old Burnside Toy Library many years ago.
