Kids, tweens and teens: don’t be bored in the school holidays. Be active! Be arty! Be crafty! Get cooking! Get outdoors! And get into Play at the Bay! Try some bead work on the beach, a fun chocolate workshop, Fairy School and Superhero Academy, get creative and make your own pizza, there’s so many different activities on offer as part of the City of Holdfast Bay’s Play at the Bay school holiday program. Play, explore and experience: there is an activity for everyone!

Play at the Bay is a program being run from 18 to 28 April 2017. The concept encourages children to play, explore and experience by offering workshops for a wide range of ages.

Holdup Race Around the Bay

Do you and your friends love an adventure and a bit of friendly competition? Join HoldUp Youth for two hours and complete as many activities as you can. The team with the most points will be the champions. Teams will comprise 3 or 6 participants. If you don’t have a team they will find one for you on the day. Bring a hat, water bottle and apply sunscreen. You will need a phone or a camera to participate.

Grasshopper Beach Soccer

Holdfast Bay and Grasshopper Soccer are teaming up for a program of school holiday soccer fun!! This program is safe and non competitive. Wear appropriate footwear, bring drink bottle and apply sunscreen.

Bubblemaker SCUBA Experience

Take the plunge and try SCUBA for the first time in the safety of an indoor pool. Experience breathing underwater and complete weightlessness with experienced Adelaide Scuba Instructors. The lesson will be followed by a walk on the beach with an educational talk on tides, currents and the little creatures you find. Participants must complete a medical questionnaire and if required seek medical clearance to ensure they are “fit to dive”

Snorkel Experience

Aimed at beginners, this snorkelling session takes place in the indoor pool . Learn snorkelling techniques through fun activities. The lesson will be followed by a walk on the beach with an educational talk on tides, currents and the little creatures you find.

Mandala Magic at Brighton Beach

Join a magical and fun morning of mandala creating with artist Sue Norman. Mandalas can be drawn with sticks, made out of sandcastles or created from the natural gifts the ocean shares. You may like to bring your own flowers and leaves but please keep your decorations environmentally friendly.
Parents and caregivers are required to stay for the event to supervise their children…and hopefully participate with them.

Clay Workshop

Play with clay. Go along to this workshop and learn how to make pinch pot clay eggs and rabbits. So, hop to it and go along. Parents are always welcome at no extra cost.

Beadwork on the Beach

Create your own personalised bag tag, bracelet or key ring from a variety of beads. Simple or complex, have a go and even make something for Mother’s Day! Let them teach you how to string a bead and have fun. Presented by award winning Kathleen Coombe who won 1st prize in the Adelaide Show Bead section.

Mosaic Workshop

Create your own mosaic with beads, tiles, mirror, glass beads ornaments, miniature toys, shells and pebbles and take it home!  Safe and non-toxic products will be used.

Kite Making with Nature Play SA

Learn how to make kites with Nature Play SA and fly them along the beach.

Cool4Kids Making Musical Instruments

Learn how to make musical instruments from everyday recyclable materials.
Fun group jam session to follow.

The Beach Studio

The Beach Studio is a fun pop-up outdoor art class developed specifically for creative outdoorsy kids. The sessions adopt a step-by-step style approach to painting an original artist inspired masterpiece.

Fun with Food

Children’s Chocolate Workshops

The Children’s Chocolate Workshops are a fun way to learn about how chocolate is grown and then made into delicious treats! They can decorate their own chocolate masterpiece and take it home to enjoy.

Muffin Magic

Learn decorating techniques so you can be the king or queen of cupcakes in your home. Have fun learning to use colours and flavours to make icing and then decorate your cupcakes. Presented by Chef Corey Walker, he will also teach you how to write with chocolate.

Make your own pizza

Want to make your own pizza and eat it too? Head down to The Strand this school holidays and do just that! Learn how to make your very own delicious pizza, then while it cooks do some colouring in – you might just win a prize!

Cooking Class

Fresh smoothie and bliss ball fun. Watch, listen, learn, join in and create, eat and drink. This is a great way for kids to learn how to create healthy snacks from raw nutritional ingredients. All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Any dietary requirements must be given prior to the workshop,

Outdoor & Environment

SOLD OUT – Animals Anonymous Native Animal Presentation – meet some furry, scaly and soft native wildlife with Animals Anonymous.

Fairy School and Superhero Academy

Calling all fairies, mermaids, pirates and superheros! They are so excited to have you at Fairy School and Superhero Academy. Every day is themed differently but all will include dancing, games, singing, craft and more. Go in your best dress-ups!

Beauty and the Beast with an Origami workshop

The classic tale as old as time, Beauty and the Beast, is back with a live action remake. Join in a workshop before the movie screening to create some beautiful origami roses to take home that will never wilt.

Dance Academy Movie and Dance workshop

We all have a dream to dance, so not only can you catch the Australian movie, Dance Academy, but you can get your feet moving beforehand with an interactive dance class to learn some moves! Dance Academy is a heart-warming story of ordinary people fighting to achieve their extraordinary dreams.

The Lego Batman Movie and Comic Artistry Workshop

Lego Batman is here to save the city with his new found sidekick Robyn, so to help get you inspired, meet sidekick, Gina, from George Rex Comics. Gina will be taking you for a comic artistry workshop before you watch your favourite action hero on the big screen!
