Little Market Chefs | Adelaide Central Market | Review

Little Market Chefs is a low-cost cooking class for kids aged 6-12, and is run by the fantastic team at Sprout at the Adelaide Central Market during the school holidays.

The Big Market Adventures for Little Foodies program runs during each school holidays at the Adelaide Central Market, and is designed to get kids involved in cooking fresh and healthy produce. The Little Market Chefs class is a great opportunity for kids to see where their ingredients come from, learn some cooking skills, and taste healthy, nutritious dishes.

Each class runs for 45 minutes and starts with a mini tour of the market. Kids will get to visit a few different stalls, learn about the types of produce they sell, and sample some food. During the class we visited, participants sampled turkish delight, blood oranges and cheddar cheese.

Back at the class tables, the team from Sprout guide participants through preparing, cooking and assembling their dishes. Several children work at each table, which really fosters a sense of collaboration. Each child will get a chance to practice grating, peeling, chopping, grilling/frying and plating food.

The children are taught safe knife handling skills and how to stay safe around hot surfaces. Every participant receives an apron to wear while participating, but we recommend wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting a little bit messy, just in case.

At the end of the class, everyone gets their own small take away meal of the dish that they prepare.

Little Market Chefs run during school holidays and classes often book out quickly, so we recommend booking early.
