Ready Steady Go Kids | Multi-Sports for Little Ones | Review

Ready Steady Go Kids is one of Australia’s largest and most reputable multi-sport and exercise program for preschoolers (aged 2.5-6 years).  Operating since 2004 they currently run classes at more than 70 locations nationally.  Their high quality, physio-designed program teaches children the fundamentals of 10 different sports in a fun, non-competitive, team-based environment.

Classes run for 45 minutes and there are 5 sports covered each term.  The sports included in the Ready Steady Go Kids program include Soccer, Athletics, Tennis, Basketball, Hockey, Rugby, AFL, Golf, Cricket and T-ball.  Classes also focus on a specific gross motor, hand-eye/foot-eye and/or balance activity to complement the sport component.

The program has a structure that is repeated each week so that participants become familiar and comfortable with the routine.  For example, each class starts with welcoming the children, stretching and a warm up drill, then towards the end of each session the kids go through an obstacle course before finishing with a game.  There is also a summary session at the end of each class to go over what the kids have learnt.

Physical activity and sport is known to decrease childhood obesity, increase confidence and prepare children for participation in school and the broader community.

The Ready Steady Go Kids program objectives are:

  • To introduce preschoolers to a variety of sports in a structured, safe, inclusive and non-competitive environment.
  • Show preschoolers that sport and physical activity are fun.
  • Introduce and encourage age-appropriate gross motor skills, coordination and correct posture.
  • Introduce and reinforce the importance of warm-up and stretching to help prevent injuries and proper hydration.
  • Teach the importance of good sportsmanship and teamwork.

Enrolments can be made quickly and easily online with their website showing a timetable for each venue.  You can also register midway through a term and the fees are pro-rated to include only the remaining classes for the term.  The first class is free if you would like to trial a session before committing to a full term.

There are currently 12 South Australian locations offering various class times throughout the week with some also on Saturdays.
