The Cora Barclay Centre is an internationally recognised service for families with children who are deaf. It was established in 1945 by a group of Adelaide women who had given birth to โ€˜rubella babiesโ€™ who were deaf and/or blind.

These women were pioneers and driven by a passion to help their children learn to listen and speak.

Their legacy of parent involvement and teaching deaf children to speak, remains central to the organisation and its service provision.

The Cora Barclay Centre provides family centred, innovative programs and is recognised nationally and internationally as a leader in deaf education. It is the only South Australian provider of โ€˜auditory verbal therapyโ€™, which is rated as the best method of assisting deaf children to acquire speech and language.

The Centre provides one-on one therapy for children from birth through to 18 years of age. Services include early intervention with group programs, individual auditory-verbal therapy, music therapy, transition to school programs, parent education and guidance, school support from a team of Teachers of the Deaf, youth social and mentoring program, on site family counselling, audiology clinic and a video conferencing program for children in remote locations including those in remote indigenous communities.

The monies raised by Westfield SA, not only on Givability Day but throughout the course of the year, will go towards building a new Literacy and Resource library, to be built at the Cora Barclay Centre, in the existing roof space.
