Scenic Hotel view over Adelaide

The Scenic Hotel – Beautiful views and great vibes

The Scenic Hotel is a gorgeous vintage pub with great vibes, exceptional pub fare and glorious views over tree tops and Adelaide City to the ocean beyond.

by Sharon Harrington

Built in 1869 and recently renovated in 2020, this pub is perfectly located to take advantage of the beautiful Adelaide Hills setting atop Norton Summit.

The Scenic Hotel is also a handy spot to visit for lunch with kids, as it is located only minutes away from ‘pick your own cherries’ fun at Marble Hill Cherries and family hikes or playground adventures at Morialta Conservation Park. It is also a magnificent place to visit as the sun sets in the evenings.

Dining is available either upstairs in the restaurant or downstairs in the bar or beer garden.

With children in tow, we opted to sit in the beer garden as kids love room to move and explore. The beer garden is just magic on a sunny day, set amongst trees, festoon lights and the sound of retro tunes.

The bar/beer garden menu covers the classics: snacks, burgers, vegetarian option, salad, chips and schnitzels. There are several kids options for $12 (as at Jan 2023) and ice-cream and sprinkles for $6.

We sampled the roo schnitzel with potato salad, chicken caesar salad, kids schnitty and ice cream with sprinkles. All were delicious and above standard pub fare.

On other occasions, we have sat on the balcony and sampled the restaurant menu and loved chicken and mustard pie with celeriac mash and braised lamb neck with roasted roots. If you are after a little more variety or special occasion food, upstairs is a great choice.

Indoors would be a wonderful option in winter, as there are cosy leather booths and warm fireplaces.
