Wombat Waterhole Playground in Hazelwood Park is a varied play space set amongst towering gum trees and includes fun features for all ages and abilities.

This long-time favourite playground has just had a refresh as of early 2024, with new soft fall and repaired/replaced circular play platforms. The refresh has helped maintain the many accessible features here, while still retaining a bit of old-fashioned charm.
A welcoming gateway and path winds it’s way from the off-street parking into a lovely mix of nature play, water play and sensory play equipment. You’ll find a little bridge, wooden wombats, listening pipes and an impressive sandpit, complete with dinosaur skeleton to excavate!
There is a water tap in the sand pit and elevated trays for sand and water play.
A nice, big (but not too fast) dual flying fox is a popular drawcard at the playground. Perfect for flying alongside your friends!
Nearby, the hard-to-miss climbing hill features two slides – a narrow, long one for the more adventurous, and a shorter, wider one suitable for smaller kids. Half of the mound is covered in stepped soft fall, and half is landscaped with large rocks and bushes.
A large, accessible area features multiple swings, including one with a seatbelt, high back and handles. There is also a wheelchair-mountable liberty swing nearby with it’s own separate fencing.
You’ll also find a basket swing and several spinners here.
There’s a roundabout in this area as well. It’s not fully accessible but it is low to the ground and surrounded by flat soft fall.
There’s also a large climbing net with a couple of internal platforms to make it easier for the more adventurous to climb all the way to the top.
A beautiful old steamroller sits off to one side of the playground, complete with a seat and steering wheel so you can go for a ‘drive’.
There’s plenty of large tree-shaded lawns surrounding the playground, and picnic shelters and barbeques nearby. Toilets are available near the swimming centre – make sure to check our review of the swimming centre if you are visiting in the summer months.
There is some fencing between the car park and the playground, but the playground is not fully fenced. You will need to keep an eye on small children.
