Your Guide to the Best Ice Cream Places Around Adelaide
I scream you scream we all scream for ice cream!
Here at Play & Go we love our ice-cream – especially in the warmer months, but a bit of cold weather doesn’t stop us eating it winter too. We love it so much we thought we’d make a list. Here are some of our favourite ice cream places around Adelaide (in no particular order). If you’ve got a favourite that we’ve missed, please let us know by commenting below.
Scroll | Adelaide
We think Scroll ice cream is a flavour sensation unlike any other ice cream. It’s also a great experience watching them make their ice cream from scratch. They use a cold plate technique inspired by Thai street vendors, which apparently makes their ice-cream naturally smoother and creamier.
35 York Street, Adelaide
Royal Copenhagen | Brighton, Glenelg, Henley Beach, Mt Gambier & Semaphore
They make their ice cream fresh daily at their small factory in Adelaide using only fresh cream and real milk. We love their waffle cones, especially dipped in chocolate, as well as their toppings bar where you can add your own chocolate or caramel topping, and sprinkles. You know it’s Summer when there’s a line up out the front at Henley Beach… but it’s worth the wait (and it moves fairly fast).
Gelato Bello | Glynde
Gelato made the authentic Italian way, on-site from fresh local ingredients daily. There’s often a line-up out the door on Summer evenings – and it’s for a very good reason.
87 Glynburn Road, Glynde
Andersen’s of Denmark | Glenelg
The ultimate indulgence, their ice-cream is made on-site and comes in a range of rich, creamy flavours. I remember having ice-cream here as a young child and it was always a treat to have this for dessert in Summer. Nothing much has changed really, except maybe there’s a few more flavours now. It’s hard to resist the smell of their freshly baked waffle cones…
46 Jetty Road, Glenelg
St Louis House of Fine Ice Cream & Desserts | Adelaide, Glenelg, Nth Adelaide & Norwood
You”ll find them down at the Bay in Glenelg, Gouger Street, North Adelaide and in December 2016 they opened their Norwood store. With premium ice creams, and some more ‘grown up’ flavours, delectable waffles and beautiful ambience this is the perfect spot for a treat.

Gelatissimo | Rundle St, Gouger St, Norwood & Glenelg
Gelatissimo is a firm favourite of one of the Play & Go families. Their gelato selection will make your eye pop out on stalks. Their premium dairy and sorbet flavours are made fresh daily – and the best news is that with so many flavours on offer a taste test is encouraged.
