As the weather starts to heat up in Spring, you will find most of Adelaide’s public outdoor swimming pools are open from September or October through to late March or April.  Many will be open in time for the Spring school holidays.

Below you will find a list of outdoor swimming pools around Adelaide along with their location and season opening dates.  Occasionally pools are closed to the public for special events and activities, so be sure to check with them directly before planning a day at the pool.

BURNSIDE POOL – George Bolton Swimming Centre

  • The 2024/25 season will reopen in late November 2024

Notes:

All outdoor pools are heated to 27 degrees; main pool is an 8 lane, 50 metre lap pool with a sloped depth from 1.1 to 1.8 metres. (there is either ramp or step entry into the pool and an aquatic wheelchair is available at the pool to assist with entry); learner’s pool features underwater observation windows; interactive play equipment and toddler’s pool; spa and steamroom; cafe/kiosk; playgrounds, picnic seating and free electric BBQs; changerooms.

2024 UPDATE: A new electric heat pump and plant room is being installed at the centre, replacing the existing gas heating system – construction delays at the centre will impact the commencement of the 2024/25 swimming season.


MARION OUTDOOR POOL (water park with waterslides)

Notes:

The Marion Outdoor Pool has been transformed into a $4.5 million water park including waterslides and super-fun water play, completed in 2020. New features include a 9 metre high tower with four slides, giant tipping bucket containing 600L of water, 59 sqm play area with water jets, shades, landscaping and paths, Balinese hut for hire for parties, playground and outdoor gym.  Existing facilities include a 50m, eight-lane, heated Olympic Pool; two smaller pools that are heated, change rooms, lockers, shower and bathroom facilities, BBQs & kiosk.

NORWOOD SWIMMING CENTRE

  • The 2024/25 season opens on Saturday 12 October 2024

Notes:

Facilities include a shaded toddler pool, 50 metre main pool, inflatable obstacle course (every Sunday between 12.30pm and 3.30pm), change rooms, shower and bathroom facilities, BBQs & kiosk.


PAYNEHAM MEMORIAL SWIMMING CENTRE

  • CLOSED FOR MAJOR RENOVATIONS – Due to reopen in 2026

Notes:

The Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre Upgrade will include:

  • 50 metre outdoor pool with 10 lanes
  • 25 metre indoor pool with 8 lanes
  • 11 x 20 metre indoor learner’s pool
  • 14 metre tall tower with two outdoor waterslides
  • multiple male, female and unisex all-access changerooms with showers, toilets and lockers
  • multipurpose meeting room
  • shade shelters and picnic seating
  • each pool will have an all-access entry via ramp or lift
  • aquatic wheelchairs will be available for public use

SALISBURY AQUATIC CENTRE

  • The 2024/25 outdoor season opens on Sunday 30 September 2024

  • Summer seasonal hours will operate from October to April (in line with South Australian school holiday periods).

Notes:

The Summer season facilities include a health club, learn to swim, cafe, indoor aquatic facilities, outdoor 50-metre pool, three water slides and an interactive splash pad/water play area.

UNLEY SWIMMING CENTRE

Notes:

Facilities include a 50m eight lane Olympic pool heated to a pleasant 26.5 degrees throughout the entire season; junior and toddler pools; change rooms and lockers.

UPDATE:

The Unley Swimming Centre will extend its operating season to assist in the housing of displaced swimmers whilst the Adelaide Aquatic Centre (AAC) is under construction.  The Unley Swimming Centre boasts the longest swim season in the state with a 36-week season that extends from mid-September to the end of May each year. The extended season will now see avid swimmers able to use the facility during the Winter months for the first time in the centre’s history.

With the AAC set to close its doors on 1 August 2024, the Unley Swimming Centre will officially open its season on the same day and remain open through to the end of May 2026.


TUSMORE PARK WADING POOL (FREE)

Notes:

Tusmore Park is a popular destination for families, so please be safety aware when using the wading pool.  As the 300 mm deep pool is unsupervised, children using the wading pool are to be supervised by a parent or carer at all times. The park also has a creek, playground, BBQ and picnic areas with tables, five full-size tennis courts and public toilets.

*Please note the Tusmore Wading Pool is closed between 6am – 10am on Tuesdays and Fridays for cleaning.

WATERWORLD AQUATIC CENTRE (with waterslides)

Notes:

An outdoor swimming centre with a 50m pool and learners pools, a curly slide and two racing slides, splash pad, plenty of shaded areas, a café and free barbecue facilities, wheelchair friendly and has picnic tables, toilets, showers and lockers.


ADELAIDE HILLS SWIMMING CENTRE

  • 8 Nairne Rd, WOODSIDE
  • Pool opens November each season

Notes:

Services include three heated, shaded pools, qualified lifeguards, squad training, swimming classes, lap swimming, showers, disabled facilities.


 

MOONTA BAY – SPLASH TOWN Copper Coast (FREE)

  • The 2024/25 season starts Saturday 28 September 2024
  • Open daily during season. Any closures due to inclement weather or unplanned maintenance will be advised on their Facebook page once known.

A FREE to use community water park featuring kids slide, racer slides, large tipping bucket, water mushrooms and more. Shade sails were added in 2020.


MURRAY BRIDGE SWIMMING CENTRE

Notes:

Offers a heated 50 metre pool with accessible ramp, a medium sized learner’s pool half covered by shade cloth and a small toddler’s pool fully covered with shade cloth. A Water Play Park with five waterslides for children and toddler’s water features, as well as a 48 metre Supaslide for teenagers and adults.
