Mother’s Day Gift Ideas & Fun Family Activities | 9 May 2021

Mother’s Day – Sunday 9 May 2021

Mother’s Day gift ideas and family-friendly activities to show Mum how much you care.

Mums work really hard, lose a lot of sleep and we think Mums everywhere are special and deserve some extra love and attention on Mother’s Day to show how much they are loved and appreciated.

If you want to head outdoors to enjoy time with family, then a visit to your local park or beach for a walk may be just what you need. Or perhaps a leisurely drive through the hills to take in the autumn colours.   Other gift ideas that are fairly traditional but always lovely to receive are fresh flowers or a pot plant, chocolates, wine, a good book, time out to read the book … did we mention not having to do dishes?

Take the time to find out what that special Mum in your life would love most. Here’s some top ideas (put together by Mums) for Mums (and for Dads who are hopefully reading this too!).

Books & Gift Ideas

♥   Fresh flowers delivered from your local florist or an indoor plant in a nice pot or basket (many florists and nurseries are still open and also offer delivery)

♥   Photograph in a frame – print your own at home or via Officeworks/Kmart etc.

♥   A bottle of perfume – perhaps a new fragrance or if she is running low, a new bottle of her favourite scent.

♥   A new e-book or buy a new book online – take a look at the Dymocks Mother’s Day book guide (click here) or shop local at book stores such as Dillons in Norwood (pictured above).

♥   A unique gift from the SA Museum shop – check out their Instagram page and to arrange a purchase call 8207 7370 or email shop@samuseum.sa.gov.au

♥   New winter pyjamas, slippers or a soft, fluffy robe – try Peter Alexander, David Jones/Myer or Cotton On.

♥   Scented Candles – proudly and authentically hand crafted in Adelaide and mindfully poured in small batches, Etikette Candles are made from 100% soy wax – shop their collections here.

♥   Buy a gift voucher for Mum to use when beauty and day spas reopen. Try Cocoon Spa & Wellness, or Endota Spa or Temple Day Spa.

♥   Buy a gift voucher for Mum to use at her favourite cafe or restaurant.

♥   Online Yoga Classes Voucher at Roaming Zen

♥   Luxury bath products – scented oils/bath bombs/body lotion – try Lush, Mecca or The Body Shop.

Handmade & Homemade Gifts

♥   You can’t beat a handmade card as a unique keepsake – include a handprint/footprint or draw a tree with fingerprints for leaves.

♥   Family Collage – go through old and recent pictures, find your favourites and put together a slide show or print out a collage on paper for Mum to keep.

♥   Breakfast in bed – nice fluffy pancakes or poached eggs on toast and freshly squeezed juice – add fresh herbs or flowers in a vase and serve on a tray.

♥   Pick flowers and some greenery from the garden and arrange in a vase/bottle/jar and add a handwritten note.

♥   Make a terrarium – use a round glass bowl (such as a fish bowl) or for an open version use a low, wide bowl. You will need soil, various sized/coloured pebbles and your choice of plants – succulents are ideal.

Food & Wine

♥  Buy a beautiful food hamper from Utopia @ Waterfall Gully (pictured above)- order online here (sold out).

♥  Beerenberg have scrumptious gift packs and gourmet baskets containing their assortment of products, including new ones for Mother’s Day – shop online here

You can also order your wine, gin and spirits online and have your wine hand-delivered by Adelaide-based business Big Easy Drinks

♥  Give Mum a break from cooking and order takeaway.

♥ Prepare a tasting board of Mum’s favourite cheeses, crackers, chocolates, pastries and fruit and pair with a glass of her favourite wine. Support our local producers like Udder Delights Cheese, Baylies Epicurean Delights and your local fruit & veg shop.

♥   Buy local and spoil Mum with produce and products from the Kangaroo Island Stall at the Adelaide Central Market – they have a beautiful range of gift ideas including wine, gin and skincare.

♥  Buy from a local food box delivery service and prepare a delicious lunch or dinner so Mum can put her feet up – try The Family Cook, Thomas Farms, Hello Fresh or Marley Spoon.
