SteamRanger Train Journey – The Southern Encounter
SteamRanger Heritage Railway operates a number of different heritage steam and diesel hauled tourist trains between Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills, up over the crest of the southern Mt Lofty Ranges, down to Strathalbyn and on through the coastal holiday towns of Goolwa and Port Elliot to the tourist resort town of Victor Harbor.
The Southern Encounter
The Southern Encounter usually operates on the first and third Sundays from May until the end of November.
The journey takes you from Mt Barker, down the southern Mt Lofty Ranges, calling in at Strathalbyn, Goolwa, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor.
2021 Dates:
- MAY: 2nd*, 16th & 30th
- JUNE: 6th* & 20th
- JULY: 4th* & 18th
- AUGUST: 1st*, 15th & 29th
- SEPTEMBER: 5th (Father’s Day) & 19th
- OCTOBER: 3rd & 17th^
- NOVEMBER** 7th & 21st (Santa Special)
Note:
*First Class carriage attached inc. morning tea, $85 per person (Child $55)
^First Class Experience Carriage includes cruise on Paddle steamer Oscar W and lunch. $150 per person
**Trains in November are scheduled to be diesel-hauled due to fire risk

- The Southern Encounter operates from Mount Barker station to Victor Harbor with a 3 hour stopover
- Departs Mt Barker 10am, returns 6pm.

Children under 4 years travel FREE but are not issued a seat. Children 4 to 16 years travel at CHILD fares.
